St. Joseph Catholic Community is happy to announce our 2021 program to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The preparations begin prayerfully the evening of Friday, December 3, when a novena commences at the conclusion of evening Vespers, which is at 6:30pm and before our 7pm Mass. This will be the format for all the novena weeknights (Dec 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). For the Saturdays, Dec. 4 and 11, the novena will be prayed inside the 7pm Mass, and for Sunday, Dec. 5, the novena will be offered inside the 6pm Mass.
In 2021, with the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe falling on a Sunday, it is important to note the distinction between special feast day Masses and the dominant liturgical calendar:
For Our Lady of Guadalupe, December 11-12, the parish celebration run from 9:00pm December 11 until the conclusion of the 1:00am Mass on December 12.
9pm December 11: offering of flowers
10:00pm: Rosary (Spanish)
11:00pm: Mass with mariachi group
12:00 midnight: “Las Mananitas” with mariachi
1:00am: Mass (Spanish)
- The 7pm Mass on December 11 is for the Third Sunday of Advent, NOT Our Lady of Guadalupe
- The 8am, 12 noon and 6pm Masses on December 12 will likewise be for the Third Sunday of Advent
Available in the narthex: marked “offering” envelopes (for Our Lady of Guadalupe) for those who wish to donate to the feast to help with the cost of the mariachi and flowers. Envelopes will specifically say for donations to be dropped off at Mass during the collection.
Due to the anticipated large crowds, and New Jersey’s recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, we strongly recommend masking and distancing in the church as much as possible.
