Pastor’s Homily — Pentecost Sunday

Wind, fire, water — these forces of nature, at their greatest power, are beyond our control.

We have learned to use some of this power for our benefit.  But ultimately, no one controls the wind, fire, or water.

When we are surfing or hang-gliding or in front of a campfire, we get a momentary feeling that we are connecting with these great forces of nature.

That’s why these are great symbols of the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit is the great power of Christ sweeping through our world and through our hearts.

We have been given the ability to surf with God, to glide with God, to be in the healing presence of the fire of God.  Pentecost is the day to again enter the adventure. Let us surrender to the great power of the Spirit to carry us where we need to go.
